rbl scrangie vs. bb couture venice party

first time I saw scrangie on scrangie’s blog it totally reminded me of bb couture’s venice party. but now that I got them both in my hands I have to say that I was mistaken.

bbvsrbl6

here are the pictures that originally made me think they could be very similar:

you see how similar they look? you will see on the next pictures, how close venice party is to scrangie’s scrangie pic:

index/ring: venice party, middle/pinkie: scrangie

I’m sorry to disappoint everyone who was hoping for a scrangie dupe, but this one is absolutely not. I don’t even need to explain the difference, because it’s pretty obvious. again, I’m wondering, if my scrangie version differs from scrangie’s, because the pictures look so different.

in the last post I was telling you, that I couldn’t use the fast drying tc on scrangie, because it was shrinking. I applied the two polishes yesterday evening without using tc and waited for 3hrs before I went to bed. this is how it looked this morning (all fingers did).

bbvsrbl2

you see, that’s why it’s essential to me that a polish can be combined with a fast drying tc o_O

l’oreal resist & shine black gloss part 3

. Friday, January 15, 2010
5 readers thoughts

remember, back in october, when I showed you some swatches of the new black gloss collection polishes? there was a red one here and 2 purples here.

I think, they relaunched it now! I found a new display at dm, and there were 2 new shades. remember when I complained, that one of the shades, black khaki, was not available in austria? now it is! and there was yet another new shade!

737

737 black khaki – ok, I must admit that I had expected much more of this one. it’s not what I would call khaki green, it’s more of a yellowtoned brown shimmer in a black base. it’s too yellow for my skintone. what a shame :-(

731

731 black blue (?) – this one is new in the collection and it’s freaking gorgeous! it’s a deep blue shimmer in a black base. I think it’s close to OPI yoga-ta get this blue! but it’s not the same shade of blue.

application of both was great, very creamy and pretty opaque with one coat. on the pics I did 2 coats for more depth.

along with those 2 shades came the red and the purples, but they dropped the brown. if you missed those polishes last time I suggest you go and get them now!

update on china glaze calcium gel fortifier:

I’ve been using it for almost 3 weeks now, and rarely used on polish. I don’t feel it has done any improvement to my nails yet. this is a picture of the 3 right hand fingers than keep breaking and chipping.

gel3

they still are, and I can hardly keep them in shape. so I guess I will not recommend this product, but there’s still 2 weeks to go. we will see.

4th advent manicure – snowy midnight

. Sunday, December 20, 2009

yesterday it was snowing all day long! I love winter, and I love snow! but I hate it, when it turns into mud the minute it hits the ground. and in big cities like vienna this happens very quickly.

we went christmas-shopping yesterday, which is kind of suicidal on the last saturday before christmas, because the whole town is doing the same. add some slippery roads and annoyed drivers and you get what we got *lol*

nevertheless I enjoyed the christmassy weather and I decided to do a snowy manicure with some rhinestones and one of my favorite polishes.

for this I used 1 coat of misa a sin worth committing and 1 coat of opi ds glamour which is one of the gorgeoustestest holopolishes one the whole planet! I used a lot of snowflaky rhinestones which I affixed with a thick coat of topcoat. pictures were taken in different lighting.

quickie: s-he 384 + 450

I’ve had both of those for quite some time, but this is the first time I tried them.

this first picture is 450 layered on 384:

she450 384

she384

384 is a deep purple with blue and pink shimmer. and it’s a pain! it’s sticky and blotchy, and it makes bubbles! it could have been really pretty though. what a shame :-( I think this is one of the f/w 09 collection, but I’m not sure.

she450

450 is aquablue glitter in a clear base. I needed 4 coats to make it opaque. the glitter is very fine, almost microglitter. I love the color, it is perfect for winter, don’t you think? I used topcoat on the picture. this is part of the core range.

layering: calypso blue, dorothy who? + nfu 52

I’ve been offline for 2 days now, I upgraded from vista to win7, and it was a mess! why can those things never work out like they are supposed to? I was so frustrated that I decided to apply a template instead of a background *lol*

anyways, I did some layering yesterday, something I had in mind since I got the wizards.

here’s what I used:

bluelayer1

as I commented in the wizard review, I think dorothy who? looks better layered on something dark blue. I used 1 coat of china glaze calypso blue as a base. then I applied 1 coat of dorothy and over this 1 coat of nfu.oh 52, which is iridescent blue-green flakes in a sheer purple base.

and that’s what it looks like: I love it! what do you think?

the wizard of ohh ahz returns...swatches!

first news: in one sentence: I'm gonna skip the german and stick with english.

second news: I've received my first pre-(re)-release polishes! how cool is that?! china glaze sent me the fabulous and long-awaited wizard of ohh ahz returns collection. thank you so much! I'm so happy I'm able to show you swatches of polishes that aren't available yet. maybe I can help you decide, which of those you really need, and which you need just a bit ;-)

ruby pumps - I'm sure you all have seen swatches of this before, or even own it. it's been one of china glaze's bestsellers ever since it was launched with the original wizard of ohh ahz collection back in 2001. and I think since then it's been part of collections every year. but believe it or not, this is my first bottle of the sparkly red elixir! and in case you don't know, it's a heavy loaded red glitter in a medium red jelly base.

good witch? - this one is a frosted, I'd call it antique, pink with pink glitter. I like the color, but you know, I'm not a pink-polish girl and this is not my favorite of the collection. I think I'd have prefered the bad witch, which would have been a green instead ;-)

cowardly lyin' - a frosted light yellow-gold with golden glitter. it's not a christmas gold, more an easter gold, if you know what I mean.

the ten man - frosted light silver with silver glitter. this one has a white touch to it, it looks like snow in moonlight, very pretty!

c-c-courage - frosted dark purple with lighter purple glitter. I'm happy about the picture, it's pretty color-true, usually my camera absorbs the blue part of these colors. there also seems to be some silver glitter in it, it's looks like it on the nail, but I can't find it in the bottle.

dorothy who? - medium blue jelly with tons of blue and silver glitter. this ought to be my favorite: it's blue, it's jelly, it's sparkling, omg it's so sparkling! it even sparkles in street lighting by night! but it needed 4 coats to get sort of opaque and that's what disappointed me about this one.

all of those were three coaters. except c-c-courage, which was fine with 2, and dorothy who, which needed at least 4 coats. it's a pain that this one is so sheer, but on the other hand it wouldn't be so sparkling if it was more opaque.

the formula was good, a bit runny, but ok. I didn't use topcoat in any of the pictures, but I guess it's a good idea to wear one. it will bring out the glitter and shine even more. concerning the frosted shades I didn't have any troubles with brushstrokes at all.

and here are some layering experiments ^^

matte magic over c-c-courage. the flat finish of matte magic is very similar to essie matte about you. and the look of this combination reminds me of one of the suedes by OPI. like it!

one coat of dorothy who? over c-c-courage. much better! I suggest you apply a medium to dark blue (or purple) base under dorothy who?, I really love this look, it's like I'd expected dorothy who?.

and a little stamping using m53 and astor silver ;-)

well, I hope you liked my little pre-re-release preview and swatches! I will try to make some sunlight pics, but, you know, the weather...

notd: china glaze caribbean blue + h24

today I'm wearing caribbean blue, a light blue with small glass flecks. on request I stamped with h24 and white. as topcoat I used fairy dust from china glaze, you can see the glitter in the blurry pic, the blue is like in the first pic.

caribbean blue is a bit runny, but still opaque.

quickie: china glaze calypso blue

. Tuesday, October 27, 2009
1 readers thoughts

china glaze was kind enough to send me some polishes for swatching purposes. this is one of them:

calypso blue

to me this is the perfect navy blue! a gorgeous deep blue creme, which I used for 2 manicures the last days. and that's special! but: after removal my nails still look blueish, it looks like I'm freezing... so you need an extra coat of basecoat!
application was great, the polish is very creamy and opaque.

bb couture part 2 - midnight malibu & dragon's breath

. Tuesday, October 20, 2009
2 readers thoughts

because I'm sick I'll skip the gibberish and switch over to the pics right away.

midnight malibu

loooovely! it looks like a purple in the bottle, but it's a deep blue with tons of purple, silver and turquoise glitter.this shade looks like a starlit night sky. it's absolutely gorgeous! 2 coats. needs topcoat.

dragon's breath

2 coats + topcoat.
dark pink with loads of pink, blue and silver glitter. I'm not sure, if I like the shade. I'm not the pink-gal, but with all the glitter it's still cool. and it's an autumn-shade. 2 coats + topcoat.
dragon's breath is much more runny than midnight malibu, which made application a bit tricky. you have to be careful not to paint your cuticles accidentally, because it's very hard to get rid of again! brushes were ok.

matte finish over glitter
l-r essie matte about you, bb couture matte finish, orly matte top

as announced I testet the bb couture matte finish on one of the glitters. to my surprise the difference between the matte tc's was lesser than on the creme-shades.
